20-year-old Enkhuizen cyclist Mark Groeneveld died yesterday. His team X-Speed United wrote this on Facebook.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Mark Groeneveld while he was on a project in Hong Kong,” the team wrote in a statement. “On Monday, October 23, XSU and the world lost another great soul. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, team members and friends.”
The team writes that Groeneveld probably died of a heart attack. “We are working closely with the relevant authorities to gather all the facts and provide the necessary support to Mark’s family during this painful period.”
“We will never forget Mark”
The team describes the cyclist as an ‘incredible person and a beloved member’. “He had a remarkable spirit, always willing to lend a hand behind the scenes with his infectious smile and warm-hearted nature. His presence brightened our days, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. (.. .) We will never forget Mark.”
