Burak Yilmaz is temporarily promoted from assistant coach to head coach at top Turkish club Besiktas.
As the club announced on Tuesday, Yilmaz will initially take over from Senol Günes until the club’s next general meeting. This should take place in December at the latest; a fixed date has not yet been set.
Günes resigned last week after the defeat against FC Lugano in the Conference League (2:3). The former Turkish national coach took over from former Bundesliga player and coach Valerien Ismael a year ago.
After eight SüperLig matchdays, Besiktas is only fourth, eight points behind league leaders Fenerbahce. Under the 38-year-old Yilmaz, who ended his active career in the summer and joined Günes’ coaching team as an assistant, the club celebrated its fifth win of the season last weekend in a 2-0 win against Istanbulspor.
