Nicky van der Gijp, the son of René van der Gijp, has barely escaped the horror poop bacteria E. coli. “I had already texted the editor the next day,” said the football analyst.
Just before the weekend, people in Dordrecht, Zwijndrecht and Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht were advised to boil their water before use, because E. coli bacteria were found in the tap water. These fecal bacteria can cause diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, but are also dangerous for young children and pregnant women.
Nicky is shocked
Nicky van der Gijp, the son of René van der Gijp who is also on TV every now and then, was completely shocked. “You laugh, but I was quite shocked, because in Dordrecht and the surrounding area a poop bacteria had indeed been found in the water,” he says in the studio of The Orange Summer.
“I sleep about here, so I came home and at eleven or twelve o’clock I go to brush my teeth and drink another glass of water, and three hours later I get that amber alert: ‘Yes, ehh, there is a poop bacteria in the water’, so I had already texted the editor the next day: ‘Yes, I don’t know if I will survive’, but I’m still there.”
Hyochonder
Presenter Hélène Hendriks thinks it’s funny that Nicky is so concerned. “Are you such a hypochondriac?”
Nicky: “Well, more and more actually.”
Studio guest Koert Westerman ‘jokes’: “Only now do I understand it. I read: ‘Cooking advice in Dordrecht’, so I think: I can ask Nicky: which coke should I take? Colombian or… But it’s the water!”
What a thigh-slapper.
