Leipzig’s Eduardo scores again
Mainz 05 won the first Youth League encounter in the club’s history. The offspring of the “Zero Fives” won the first leg in the first round against Slovenian participants NK Maribor 2-0 (1-0). Melvin Wiesnet took the lead in the 27th minute, Aiman Dardari increased the score in the 70th minute. The second leg in Mainz will take place on October 25th at 6 p.m.
RB Leipzig achieved a respectable draw against Manchester City. Yannick Eduardo, who scored twice against BSC Young Boys on the first matchday, made it 1-0 (60th). A little later, an own goal from Elias Lenz (71′) ensured a draw.
Overall, the results of the German clubs this week are weak. After FC Bayern (2:3 at FC Copenhagen) and Union Berlin (1:4 against Sporting Braga) lost on Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund also suffered a defeat. The black and yellow lost to AC Milan 1:2. Paris Brunner’s goal in the 92nd minute came too late; Diego Sia (16th) and Kevin Zeroli (22nd) scored the goals for the Rossoneri.
As the reigning A youth champions, Mainz 05 is represented in the championship route, in which the 32 youth champions of the strongest nations meet in a knockout mode according to the UEFA club coefficient. RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are currently taking part in the group phase, which is being held parallel to the “premier class” of the professionals. The group winners automatically qualify for the round of 16, the group runners-up meet the eight remaining teams from the championship path in another playoff round.
