Last night’s stabbing at the Orion is separate from previous incidents in the Amstelveen Middenhoven district involving young people. The police reported this after an investigation in which, among other things, witnesses were interviewed. Two minor suspects were arrested almost immediately.
Local residents have been complaining about youth nuisance for years. In 2019, two stabbings by young people took place at Orion. Last November, a resident was beaten up when she confronted some young people because they kept lighting fireworks. Following that incident, youth received a ‘loitering ban’ around Middenhoven Shopping Center.
Stabbed in wrist
Last night’s victim also said he was annoyed by the behavior of the boys who were ultimately arrested as suspects. He spoke to them about this in the De Meent Community Center. A little later he was allegedly stabbed in the wrist by the boys outside. The victim was treated in hospital for his injuries and has now returned home.
The police therefore emphasize that yesterday’s incident does not appear to be related to the previous incidents. As far as the police can now estimate, there is no active violent youth gang, such as in the Haarlem region the case is.
