Since September 28th, the “Zoo Station: A U2:UV Experience” has been offering a special kind of fan experience. Fans of the Irish band will get their money’s worth at the luxury hotel The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. On the opening day, the first visitors published pictures of their experience. What you can see on it: A Trabi also made it to Las Vegas.
Gavin Friday, U2’s long-time creative director, created the “Experience” to bring fans closer to the U2 album “Aehrung Baby” in a completely new way. The name alludes to the Berlin subway station Zoological Garden, which is not far from the Hansa Studios. The rock band recorded large parts of their album there.
The fan experience includes, among other things, the so-called “Zoo TV Cinema”, which was curated by U2 guitarist The Edge. Rare tape recordings and films can be seen there. In the “Ultra Violet Lounge” there are, among other things, shopping opportunities with exclusive merchandise, drinks at the Fly Bar and of course lots of music on two floors. Another highlight is the Anton Corbijn Gallery with pictures and film material from 50 years of band and artist history.
U2 live shows start on Friday
From September 29th to December 16th, U2 will play a residency concert series at the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas. The title: “U2:UV Warning Baby Live at Sphere”. However, fans will still have to do without Larry Mullen Jr. The drummer is currently recovering from an operation and will therefore not be at the first shows. “The whole band and certainly the audience will be very sad and miss Larry,” U2 bassist Adam Clayton told the British newspaper Daily Star. “He wants to come back, he wants to have a long career and continue his drumming, so he’s taking care of these injuries,” the band member elaborates. “I’m sure it’s a difficult moment for Larry knowing your band is going on stage and you’re not there.”
Bram van den Berg, drummer of the Dutch band Krezip, will take his place on the drums instead. The sick drummer also thinks it’s a worthy replacement: “He’s completely behind the idea of us going on stage with Bram,” says Clayton.
