Three goals, two assists: FC Bayern Munich clearly won against VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga – and that had a lot to do with Harry Kane.
The goals in Bayern’s 7-0 (4-0) win were scored by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (4th minute), Harry Kane (12th, 54th, 88th), Matthijs de Ligt (29th), and Leroy Sané (38th) and Mathys Tel (81st).
Coach Thomas Tuchel wasn’t just happy with the goal tally. He told ARD radio: “We made it look easy.” It was the record champions’ fourth win in their fifth league game and they are now top of the table again.
These are spheres from which they are a long way removed in Bochum. VfL is still waiting for its first win this Bundesliga season after the fifth matchday. Three draws versus two defeats.
Bochum and the plans – there was always something
The 36th minute of the game was underway in Munich when Thomas Letsch, the coach of VfL Bochum, reacted. He brought in two new players, Noah Loosli and Philipp Hofmann, and at that point the score was already 0-3 from VfL’s perspective. Less than 120 seconds later, Bayern added a fourth goal.
“We really took a beating today”Letsch told ARD radio. That’s how it was with Bochum’s plans this afternoon: There was always something, and often it was a goal conceded.
It started right at the beginning when Sané played deep and found Kingsley Coman. Coman sprinted into the penalty area, then he crossed, Choupo-Moting just kept his foot in. Leadership for Bayern.
The second goal for FC Bayern came after Alphonso Davies moved quickly from the left into the middle. He then missed the ball, but Bochum’s defense couldn’t take advantage of it. It was a bit fortunate that Kane was allowed to intervene afterwards. The rest was a goal scorer’s instinct and skill: Kane finished flat with his inside right from 13 meters.
Two goals, two assists, one record – Kane is convincing
The third goal was preceded by a cross from Joshua Kimmich, then de Ligt headed straight into the top left corner. Bayern’s fourth goal was also worth seeing: Kane got the ball at the halfway line, turned and then shifted to the right side. Bochum’s defenders lost sight of Sané there. Sané ran towards Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann, then finished with a low shot into the bottom left corner.
A fifth goal also came, Kane was the scorer again, this time he converted a penalty. This was preceded by a handball by Bochum defender Ivan Ordets.
Kane also set a new club record. He has now scored seven goals in his first five Bundesliga games – something that no player in the club’s history has achieved. Gerd Müller (1965), Miroslav Klose (2007) and Mario Mandzukic (2012) each scored five times.
Kane also ensures the final point
Bayern Munich’s joker Mathys Tel caused the penultimate excitement of the game. After a pass from Kane, Tel took two quick steps, then he flicked the ball right into the bottom right corner. You can do it like that. Bayern actually had one more, Kane scored again, this time the assist came from Noussair Mazraoui.
