Olympic damper for German volleyball players

After their second defeat, the German volleyball players no longer have a chance of getting a ticket to Paris at the Olympic qualification tournament in Lodz.

Due to a 0:3 (20:25, 22:25, 15:25) against Italy, the selection of the German Volleyball Association (DVV) still has eleven points, the USA, Poland and Italy (all 15) are out of reach. Only two teams qualify.

After four consecutive wins at the start of the tournament, national coach Vital Heynen’s team narrowly lost to the Polish hosts on Friday (2:3).

The last game against Olympic champions USA on Sunday (5.30 p.m.) is not meaningless despite the table constellation; further places for Paris will be awarded in the world rankings until June.

The German women last qualified for the Olympics in Athens in 2004.
