‘This time I am writing to you from the back corner of Drenthe, where I arrived after an eternally long journey in the barge through the heath’. In beautifully written and illustrated letters to brother Theo, Van Gogh also shares with us, 140 years later, what he experienced along the way, on his way to New Amsterdam/Veenoord. As if he were there himself, history fanatic and Van Gogh expert Bert Finke takes us by the hand in four episodes of a new podcast and radio series.
In a reconstruction of Van Gogh’s walks in the area, we hear more about his wishes, desires and eventual work in this part of the Netherlands. Finke: ‘When Vincent took the barge to New Amsterdam on October 2, he immediately started recording his findings along the way. he wrote in a letter to his brother Theo the things he saw along the way.’
