A historic change has been made to the international Miss Universe competition, as the upper age limit for the competition has been removed. The minimum age is still in force. Now all women aged 18 and older can participate in the competition.
The previous upper age limit for the Miss Universe and Miss America contests was 28. This is evident from the update published on Miss Universe’s official Instagram account.
The reigning Miss Universe R’Bonney Gabriel spoke about it at an event organized during New York Fashion Week.
– I love that the women in the Miss Universe competition are always looking for ways to include more diverse people in the competition and how to make our platform more functional, commented Gabriel.
– There is a brave group of women who take responsibility here. Many people also follow what we do, Gabriel added.
Finland will be represented at the Miss Universe competition this year by the newly elected Miss Finland Paula Joukanen. Joukanen is a 22-year-old law student. The competition will take place next year in El Salvador.
