Cyclist Ricarda Bauernfeind is “Sports Scholarship Holder of the Year 2023”.
Sporthilfe and Deutsche Bank honored the student teacher for her extraordinary achievements in sport and studies. In the online voting, the 23-year-old prevailed ahead of Anne-Kathrin Berndt (sitting volleyball), Lea Krüger (fencing), Jona Pörsch (taekwondo) and Christopher Ruhr (hockey).
At the women’s Tour de France, Bauernfeind caused a stir as the stage winner after a long solo escape and finished ninth in the overall classification. She also won bronze with the German time trial team at the World Championships in Scotland.
Since 2013, the prize has been awarded to student athletes who stand out for their success. Previous winners include Olympic long jump champion Malaika Mihambo, Olympic javelin throw champion Thomas Röhler and swimming world champion Leonie Beck.
