‘Just like your mother’
The two had an argument and the frustrated victim said his girlfriend was starting to look like her mother. The woman would then have become furious. She has slashed her partner in the back with a carving knife of twelve to fourty centimeters and stabbed him in the neck. The man managed to flee to the neighbors and called the police.

Just exploded
When the police arrived and the woman was approached, according to the officers present, she said: “I couldn’t take it any longer. I just exploded at one point. I stabbed him.” The judge therefore sees sufficient evidence for attempted manslaughter. However, there is a diminished sense of responsibility, a psychologist concluded.

According to the psychologist, there is a slight intellectual disability and an immature, immature personality. The woman is also said to be suffering from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

pretty hefty
In view of the diminished responsibility and the clean criminal record of the woman, the judge therefore arrives at a net sentence of one and a half years in prison. Her lawyer Frank Teerling speaks of a ‘pretty hefty’ sentence. “I have argued for a sentence equal to her pre-trial detention. In my view it was not attempted manslaughter, given the very limited injuries.”

Mandatory treatment
The woman is also required to undergo psychological treatment as soon as she is released from prison. The treatment lasts at least two years. According to lawyer Teerling, more attention should have been paid to the psychological situation of his client. “The emphasis should have been more on aid than on punishment, as far as I’m concerned.” The woman has two weeks to file an appeal.
