Tennis US Open winner Harri Heliövaara blundered sadly at the tournament’s award ceremony.
Heliövaara and his mixed doubles partner, Kazakhstan Anna Danilinagave short speeches of thanks before lifting the winning trophy, when the Finn made a mistake at the microphone.
Heliövaara alternately thanked his final opponents, his team and his family, but forgot to thank his partner.
He had to ask for the microphone back for himself, when the host of the event already took the opportunity forward.
– Of course I have to thank my partner as well, I forgot that, Heliövaara said embarrassed.
– He is the reason why we are standing here now. I didn’t know you two weeks ago, but now I know you very well.
Danilina laughed at the situation next to her. He didn’t seem to get worse.
The victory of Heliövaara and Danilina at the US Open is quite a fairytale, as the pair only met a few weeks ago. Neither had a partner for mixed doubles, so they decided to join forces just before the tournament.
