The next hurdle in the expansion of the Dresden Railway has been overcome. Deutsche Bahn installed a new bridge in Mariendorf on Friday. In the future, trains will race across the Teltow Canal at 160 kilometers per hour.
Near the Attilastrasse S-Bahn station, Deutsche Bahn has installed a new steel tie-arch bridge between the Mariendorfer Hafensteg and the S-Bahn bridge. 900 tons have been hanging over the Teltow Canal since Friday.
The elements for the “Blue Wonder” were transported to the construction site via a pontoon. Work on the construction section is scheduled to be completed in two weeks. Then walkers and cyclists will have free travel again along the Teltow Canal to the Maulbronner Ufer.

When the Dresden Railway goes into operation in December 2025, 250 long-distance and regional trains will travel over the new Teltow Canal Bridge every day. From Berlin you can get to Dresden in 80 minutes (currently 110 minutes); from the main station to BER it will in future only take 20 minutes with the airport express.
Mobility Senator Manja Schreiner (45) spoke of a milestone. “It is an important contribution to making the railway more attractive,” she said. The next stage is to bring the Blankenfelde train station back into operation in November.
