The warm late summer weather can lead to a weather record in the coming days. It is expected that it will be 30 degrees here and there in North Holland this week. That is special, because it is not often this hot in the late days of summer.
According to NH weatherman Jan Visser, the current sticky weather could even lead to a real ‘weather record’ on Wednesday. The highest temperature ever recorded on September 6 is 28.2 degrees. There is a huge chance that the temperature will be broken, says Visser: “In our province it can also easily reach 29 degrees tomorrow.”
The heat in the Netherlands will continue for a while after that. Visser: “Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday it will be persistently dry, sunny and warm to very hot.” According to the weatherman, the temperature will always reach 28 degrees on those days. That may not change until after the weekend: “Then the heat will decrease and there is a chance of a few showers,” says Visser.
Significantly higher than average
The temperature is often high during this period. Last year, ‘the mercury’ also peaked in the first week of September. Then it even became 32 degrees on September 5th. This is significantly higher than the long-term average. According to the KNMI, it is normally more than 10 degrees colder during this period (average 21.1 degrees).
After the already very hot day today, the weather will be even better tomorrow. Wednesday looks set to be the hottest day of the week. For the last very hot day on September 6, we have to go back more than half a century. In 1958 it was 28.2 degrees on that day. And it now seems pretty certain that this old record will be destroyed.
