The center of Roden was open for three years, but contractor Roelofs completed most of the work just before the summer. Today – on the first day of the Wat ‘n Kunst festival – the new center was officially opened. Entrepreneurs, municipality and visitors showed a positive attitude.
“It’s interesting how positive people react,” says 14-year-old Hilbrand. “I expect that the reactions will remain positive. I’m actually pretty sure.”
So all praise to the make over that the Roner center has undergone. It was also badly needed, says Business Circle chairman Emiel van der Heide. “Not only the streetscape, also under the street a lot had to be done. A huge water storage facility has been installed and the sewer has been adjusted. The streets here were not yet flooded, but some shopkeepers sometimes stood in a puddle of water after rainfall. That is now past.”
As an interested party, the Business Circle regularly participated in consultations with the municipality and the neighborhood association about the approach of the centre. Van der Heide praises the cooperation between the various parties and contractor Roelofs. “They promised to have the center for the holy Rodermarkt ready. They more than succeeded,” he notes.
