After “The Elder Scrolls 6” (TES6) was announced at E3 in 2018, we finally know a little more about the role-playing blockbuster.
Bethesda’s chief developer, Todd Howard, announced “The Elder Scrolls 6” at the E3 2018 press conference. A first teaser trailer was also shown at the time. Since then, rumors have been circulating at regular intervals. TECHBOOK summarizes what is known so far about content and the release of “The Elder Scrolls 6”.
It has been a long time since we heard anything official about a new “Elder Scrolls” part. While the online offshoot is still regularly supplied with updates and DLCs, fans of the main series have had to wait patiently for news – until now.
Bethesda’s PR chief Pete Hines told industry magazine vandal confirmed to that TES6 is now no longer in the pre-production phase. That’s no surprise, given that Bethesda’s Starfield is set to launch in September. Although the studio will of course continue to be busy with the big sci-fi title, this will free up resources for the “Skyrim” successor.
Conversely, this good news also means that there is still a long way to go before a new “Elder Scrolls” part is available. In the development phase, the studios usually start with the detailed construction of the game world. Experts expect that “The Elder Scrolls 6” will start in 2027 at the earliest.
Only a few information in the teaser
The 36-second mini-teaser hit the one million views mark after just five hours when it appeared on YouTube. There are now over 15 million. Hardly anyone will be able to draw specific details about TES6 from it. A camera flight over a mountainous landscape by the sea, a fortress on the ground and the well-known Elder Scrolls tune – that’s it. Everything else is left to the speculation of the role-playing community and Bethesda has kept a low profile since then.
In particular, the exact region in which “TES 6” is located is already hotly debated in the comments on the video. A majority believes in High Rock in the north of the Elder Scrolls continent of Tamriel. Now, however, there was a leak that brought another region into play.
The potential leak comes from Twitter user Skullzi and was published on April 26, 2022. Supposedly “The Elder Scrolls 6” in the period between 2025 and 2026 appear; In fact, that doesn’t seem entirely unrealistic. In general, the game should finally be in full development. That would mean that Bethesda would focus its resources on the new Elder Scrolls installment.
According to the leak, it also does not go to High Rock or Hochfels, the region in the very north-west of Tamriel. Instead, TES6 is said to be located a little further south in Hammerfell. So far, this area can only be visited in the games The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall and the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO).
The landscape of this province is primarily desert and barren, but it also has a large coastline, all of which would match the teaser images. The Redguard human race lives primarily in this area.
Are we getting a whole new game system in TES6?
The leak also talks about a new faction and political system. Unfortunately, the Twitter user does not go into detail. Already in “Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim” there are two hostile factions with the Imperials on one side and the Stormcloaks on the other. Choosing either side has minimal impact on the main story, however. For example, in “Fallout 4” players can choose one of several factions, in ESO the decision for one of the three alliances is very relevant for the PvP area. So this leak is also quite possible, especially since Skullzi has already distinguished itself in the past with accurate insides.
The fans had to wait a long time
The extremely successful predecessor “Skyrim” is already almost eleven years old. Due to the success of the series, however, it has long been clear that there will be a successor. Normally, Bethesda released a new The Elder Scrolls part about every five years. Porting to numerous platforms over time is most likely responsible for the lag. There has also been a lot of new content coming to The Elder Scrolls: Online over the past few years. The milking of Skyrim and the entire game world of Tamriel in ESO recently caused displeasure among fans and even became an internet gag that the developer himself in a fun video at E3 picked up.
With “The Elder Scrolls: Blades”, Bethesda also installed a mobile game for smartphones before the “TES 6” announcement. For the fan community, all of this is no substitute for another main part of the series.
