Always call 112

Melanie shares another important tip: whatever emergency situation you find yourself in, you can always call 112. She explains: “An emergency can arise out of the blue, for example if someone suddenly becomes unwell. Many people are distraught at such times and have no idea how to act.”

The 112 dispatcher gives you the right tips and ensures that the right emergency services come to you. When in doubt, just call!”

I felt like I wasn’t alone

Kristen (29) recently took a first aid course and for good reason. She says: “Last year I was involved in a serious car accident. My father was driving and suddenly became unwell behind the wheel. You can imagine: the panic at that moment was very great.”

“After I took the wheel, we ended up in the guardrail after about 40 seconds. Fortunately, my father came to at that moment,” she says. Although her father came to, the situation was still very uncertain.

She continues: “The lady from 112 told me exactly what to do while we waited for the ambulance. She gave tips on how to keep my father conscious. It made me feel calmer and not alone. As a result, I also took a course myself, so that I would never feel so lost again at such a moment.”
