Chase trained with coach Frank Fahrenhorst’s VfB reserve team for around two weeks last year and left a lasting impression. The newspaper attests the youngster, who had also auditioned for the Eredivisie clubs AZ Alkmaar and Ajax Amsterdam in the past few months, “promising performance diagnostics. Passing, tackling, anticipation, plus a noticeably advanced physical development for his age.”
Hasebe and Osako in the top 3: Japanese with the most Bundesliga appearances
After captain Wataru Endo and Hiroki Ito, for whom VfB has the option to buy after the end of the season, Chase could become the third Japanese player in the current Swabian squad in the coming season – the positive sporting development of both players in Stuttgart is for the 17-year-old been decisive for his decision “for” VfB. The Japanese will only sign a contract after he has reached the age of majority (on March 24, 2022).

The 1.87 meter tall defender had recently made his debut for Japan’s U23 national team despite his young age and played 90 minutes in the 4-0 win against Cambodia. Chase, who was born in Japan but also has roots in the USA, still plays for Shoshi High School in his home country. At VfB it should initially be intended for the U21s and from there it should be recommended for regular use by the professionals.
