800m women (10:05)

There is a heat warning in Budapest for Wednesday, around noon the temperatures in the Hungarian capital are said to be more than 30 degrees Celsius. The two German 800 m runners will also feel this, who will start over 800 m in the preliminary heat and want to secure a place in the semi-finals. Christina Hering is in the starting list for the third of a total of seven runs, which is scheduled to start at 10:21 am. In race number six, Majtie Kolberg starts the two laps of the stadium at 10.45 a.m.

Pole Vault Men (10:15)

The pole vaulters have to master 5.80 m in the qualification, then they are sure to be in the final. Gilian Ladwig has improved his personal best to 5.72 m this season. Oleg Zernikel has not jumped in top form this year: 5.65 m is the best height for him in 2023, he jumped his personal best at the World Championships last year: with 5.87 m he took fifth place in Eugene. World record holder Armand Duplantis (6.22 m) from Sweden should only wring a weary smile from the qualifying height.

200 m men (12.15)

The men’s 200m heats were brought forward from 12:50 p.m. to 12:15 p.m. due to the heat. Joshua Hartmann from Cologne ran a German record of 20.02 seconds at the German Championships in Kassel in early July and is brimming with self-confidence. He wants to “watch from round to round” in Budapest, but dreams of taking part in the final. Will he be the first German to run under 20 seconds on the big stage? The 24-year-old can be trusted. He starts in the third of a total of seven heats.

Triple jump women (7:10 p.m.)

Among the 36 registered triple jumpers who want to make it to the final is Kira Wittmann. The 23-year-old has never jumped the required distance of 14.30 m in her career – her personal best is 13.91 m .2023).

For Kira Wittmann, the qualification is the first World Cup appearance of her career.

Pole Vault Women (7:30 p.m.)

Who will be world champion in pole vaulting? Olympic and defending champion Katie Moon from the USA is the favourite. Nina Kennedy from Australia, the Finnish European Champion Wilma Murto and Sandi Morris from the USA also want to have a say in the awarding of the medals. The German jumper Anjuli Knäsche dropped out in the qualification.

3,000m Steeplechase Women (7:53 p.m.)

Olivia Gürth represents the German colors over 3,000 m obstacle, in the last of the three heats. In order to make it into the final on Sunday (08/27/2023), you need a place in the top five. The 21-year-old Gürth is at a World Cup for the first time, making it to the final would be a minor sensation.

1,500 m men (21:15)

Norway’s Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen has to be beaten in the 1,500m final. Last year at the World Championships in Eugene, Jake Wightman from Great Britain surprisingly succeeded, but he is injured in Budapest. For DLV runner Amos Bartelsmeyer it was over in a strong lead against Ingebrigtsen, among others.

400m women (9:35 p.m.)

Some big names are missing in the women’s 400 m final in 2023: Shaunae Miller-Uibo from the Bahamas retired after her baby break in the preliminary heat on Sunday (08/20/2023), world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (USA) is missing injured. The Pole Natalia Kaczmarek as the fastest runner in the semifinals on Monday (08/21/2023) or the Olympic and World Cup runner-up Marileidy Paulino from the Dominican Republic – second fastest in the semifinals – can count on chances.

400 m hurdles men (21:50)

Joshua Abuaku is the first German 400m hurdler in a World Cup final in 36 years. The 27-year-old, who increased his personal best to 48.32 seconds, dreams of a time under 48 seconds and wants to get closer to Harald Schmid’s age-old German record from 1982 (47.48). Eugene world champion Alison dos Santos from Brazil, Norwegian world champion and Olympic champion Karsten Warholm and Rai Benjamin from the USA are likely to compete for the title.
