Manuel Neuer’s comeback at Bayern Munich is getting closer. The confirmed club president and supervisory board chairman Herbert Hainer on Monday.
“I’ll give you an update on Manuel Neuer and that’s good news,” Hainer explained to journalists at the “Sport-Bild Award 2023”.
Neuer’s rehabilitation process is “faster and better” than previously thought. “In two or three weeks” you will see the captain and regular keeper back in team training “and then hopefully back in goal soon,” said Hainer.
Neuer broke his lower leg on a private ski tour after the World Cup in Qatar in December 2022 and has not played a game since.
According to FC Bayern, metal removal on the right fibula was planned, but it obviously brought improvement recently.
Hainer looked back with satisfaction at last week’s Bundesliga opener at Werder Bremen. In the north-south duel, the Munich team scored a clear 4-0 win against their former title rivals.
“I was a bit nervous. But I know what the team is capable of, what they can do. It was an impressive game from our side, with lots of possession and dominance, but ultimately the goals we needed. A 4-0 away win is a good start,” says Hainer.
FC Bayern “proud” of Harry Kane’s transfer
Not only the performance in Bremen caused a change of mood around Säbener Straße, but also the commitment of the new star striker Harry Kane and his strong debut in the Weserstadion.
“There’s a lot of euphoria there. You saw how important he is for our team. He didn’t just score the goal, he also provided one. We’ll have a lot of fun with him,” said Hainer.
Kane is “an international star, captain of the English national team, top scorer in the Premier League several times. We are proud that we were able to bring him to Bayern Munich. He is an asset to the entire Bundesliga.”
