A well-known name will start in the German Touring Car Masters in the future. David Schumacher is following in the big footsteps of dad Ralf and uncle Michael.
The DTM can look forward to a prominent name in the field of drivers from the coming season. David Schumacher, son of ex-Formula 1 driver Ralf, will be in the cockpit of the Winward team. There he will drive a Mercedes-AMG GT3 (approx. 550 hp).
The 20-year-old has respect for the new task: “I am aware that I have to learn a lot to survive in this high-class racing series,” said Schumacher on “Sport1”. Most recently he drove in Formula 3.
Winward team boss Christian Hohe Nadel is looking forward to his new pilot, who will drive alongside champion Maximilian Götz and Luca Auer: “Despite his youth, David approaches the matter in a highly professional manner. He knows what a big task he has ahead of him and he is up to it you with great ambition. He undoubtedly brings the perfect genes with him.”
Papa Ralf: “Big step for David”
David follows in the footsteps of his father and his uncle. Papa Ralf drove 52 races in the DTM between 2008 and 2012. He says: “It’s a big step for David.” Uncle Michael Schumacher was also a guest driver in the racing series in the early 1990s.
DTM boss Gerhard Berger said to the TV station: “David is one of the wild youngsters who want to take the next step in the DTM. The DTM is characterized by exactly that: the fight between the young talents on their way to the top and the established top dogs.” The first race of the new season will take place in Portimão/Portugal on the weekend of April 30th
