National player Joshua Kimmich has put an end to speculation about transfers and has made a clear commitment to FC Bayern Munich. “I am very sure that I will play here at Bayern next season. At least I personally have no other plans,” said the 28-year-old at the first press conference on the record champions’ marketing trip to Asia on Tuesday.
In the past few weeks there have been regular rumors about Kimmich’s future. FC Barcelona in particular were considered interested, coach Xavi even raved publicly about the midfielder several times, describing him among other things as a “top player” in his position. Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel recently said that he could not give any guarantees as to who would be in the Munich squad after the transfer period on September 1st. Kimmich’s departure would be “a big surprise” for the football teacher.
Just 32 hours after arriving in Japan, Kimmich and Co. will have the first of a total of three friendlies this Wednesday against Champions League winners Manchester City with full-back Kyle Walker (who is not supposed to play himself) courted by FC Bayern. “I’m looking forward to the game. City are currently the best team in Europe. We can see directly where we stand,” said Kimmich.

Tuchel praises Bayern newcomer Kim: “At every club” took the next step
For newcomer Min-jae Kim, the showdown with the English coached by ex-Bayern coach Pep Guardiola comes too early. “He probably won’t play,” said Tuchel, praising the South Korean’s development: “He took the next step at every club. We are delighted that he has chosen us and hope that he will quickly find his feet and be able to continue his development with us.”
Other opponents on the marketing trip in Asia are the Japanese first division team Kawasaki Frontale again in Tokyo next Saturday and Liverpool FC in Singapore on Wednesday next week. In addition to national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, attackers Thomas Müller and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as well as newcomer Raphaël Guerreiro are absent due to injury.
