Eager Dylan Groenewegen is just short of a stage victory on Champs-Élysées

He seemed to execute a perfect sprint, but just before the finish Dylan Groenewegen was beaten on the Champs-Élysées. The Amsterdammer finished third in the mass sprint. That means he didn’t win a Tour stage this Tour de France.

In the streets of Paris Groenewegen chose the wheel of Jasper Philipsen, the wearer of the green jersey. Mathieu van der Poel started the sprint on the Champs-Élysées, after which Groenewegen thundered over it. With that he seemed to eliminate Philipsen for the overall victory. However, he took the lead early, so the distance to the finish was a bit too great. A photo finish showed that Jordi Meeus won the sprint, followed by Philipsen and Groenewegen.

Cees Bol crossed the finish line in fifth place, behind Mads Pedersen. As a result, the Tour de France ends without a North Holland stage victory. The only Dutchman to cross the finish line first was Wout Poels in the Alps.
