Mercedes far behind
There is also a question mark over the performance of Mercedes. While George Russell still saw potential, Lewis Hamilton and team boss Toto Wolff had lower expectations for the weekend. You don’t hope for great results in Hungary, even though it’s actually a track that could suit the car.

Verstappen not in the top ten
Max Verstappen, on the other hand, was not in the top ten at all. For the Dutchman, eleventh place was enough on Friday after he preferred to save tires for Saturday and drove a different program. Unrest should not break out at Red Bull, at least in Verstappen’s box. Under normal circumstances, the Championship leader should be able to hit back as usual today. Sergio Pérez’s worry lines should be bigger. The Mexican has not only been under pressure since Ricciardo returned to the sister team AlphaTauri. In the end, nothing fit together anymore and a crash in the first practice session shouldn’t have really helped.

New tire rule creates a mixed field
Formula 1 is testing a new tire rule in Hungary. There are fewer sets of tires and a mandatory qualifying order. A circumstance that was already noticeable on Friday. Many decided to save tires and a direct comparison between the teams was difficult. Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari was fastest on the day, followed by Lando Norris, Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda.
