It’s summer holidays and that means that a lot of Zoetermeer residents are exchanging their homes for a camping site. But where do they reside? Is that a tent, a caravan or a camper?

One thing is certain: there are now many more Zoetermeer residents who own a motorhome than at the beginning of the year 2020. The number of motorhomes has increased by 37 percent throughout the Netherlands compared to the period just before the corona pandemic. This is evident from an analysis by the ANP based on data from the RDW and Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

The number of camper owners has increased in all municipalities. In Zoetermeer this is an increase of 35.7 percent. That means that last June 673 campers were registered in our city. At the beginning of 2020 there were still 496. If we look in the Zoetermeer area, the residents in the municipality of Lansingerland have many more campers. At the beginning of 2020, Lansingerlanders had 447 campers in their municipality. In June of this year there were 699. This means an increase of 49.7 percent!
Besides campers, caravans are also still popular in the Netherlands and about 400,000 caravans are registered.
