Musician Jukka Kuoppamäki has decided to put the guitar away.
According to a recent announcement, the artist, who will turn 81 in September, is leaving the concert scene and will therefore cancel his upcoming concerts in the fall. Kuoppamäki was supposed to perform in the fall in Tampere, Hyvinkää, Hamina, Mikkeli and Ikaalis, among others.
Now these performances have been canceled at the request of the musician.
– After more than 60 years of gigging, the moment has come to say that it’s time to hang up the gig guitar, say thank you and bow, and say goodbye to the concert audience, Kuoppamäki says in the press release.
The musician thanks his audience for all the years of his career. The decision is sad for the artist, but the right one.
– A heart full of gratitude and also a touch of longing, he specifies.
Kuoppamäki has made an iconic career in Finnish iskelmä music. During his career, the musician has worked as a performer as well as a composer and lyricist. His most famous songs include, among others Blue and white, Gold and glory, Highway and The rails lead south.
Kuoppamäki’s composition production also includes evergreens, such as give me the starry sky, Love and Saddle castle.
In 2019, the musician was awarded the Finnish Lion’s Pro Finlandia medal and in 2018 the Juha Vainio award.
