The farmer’s wife of the children’s farm in Nederhorst den Berg is furious: just like that, a rabbit was ‘dumped’ with her last night. With a hutch, some wood and a note written in children’s handwriting, the white rabbit was simply put over the fence. “You just don’t do this,” the farmer’s wife responds. Still, the adventure seems to have ended well.
The farmer’s wife says that she was surprised this morning when she saw a white plastic bag in front of her yard. “I was just about to feed the animals when I was lying in a sack. When I looked further, I saw to my great surprise a hutch with a white rabbit in it.”
She said she was dumbfounded: “Who would do something like that? What kind of world do we live in?”
note
For a moment it seemed as if the rabbit had been left completely anonymous. “When I looked a little closer later, I saw a note under the wood in the hutch.” It was written in children’s handwriting that the rabbit could no longer be cared for, and the animal’s name: Nina.
The owner of the petting zoo often receives requests to take over animals. If that fits, she usually doesn’t find it a problem. But with rabbits this is a different story: “Multiple rabbits in a pen becomes a big fight 9 times out of 10. I only have one pen, so unfortunately no room for multiple rabbits.”
Out of anger and impotence, she writes a message on Facebook. “This rabbit was dumped with me. Owner come and get him. You can’t just do this,” it says. In the meantime, she calls the animal ambulance who will pick up the animal in the course of the afternoon.
All’s well that ends well
But, a little later that appointment can be canceled again. An involved woman responds under the Facebook post. She indicates that she still has a pen left and would like to offer the animal a new home. A little later, a picture of rabbit Nina in a large pen, with fresh hay, appears under the reaction: “Solved”.
Still, the farmer’s wife hopes that Nina’s previous owner will scratch his head: “You just don’t do this.”
Rabbit Nina will hopefully soon feel at home in her new home after this foundling adventure.
