The Notorious BIG: New documentary looks at rappers from the son’s perspective

“Understanding Christopher Wallace” will provide intimate insights from the son’s point of view.

Biggie Smalls’ son, actor CJ Wallace (“Everything Must Go,” “Scream”) has teamed up with TIME Studios to delve deeper into the life and legacy of the rap legend in the documentary Understanding Christopher Wallace illuminate. The story of The Notorious BIG will be shown from the point of view of the child who never had the chance to really get to know his father.

The life story of The Notorious BIG from a new perspective

In the film, CJ Wallace is set to provide an intimate look at his father, who passed away when he was just five months old. The life of the rapper is summed up in the same way as that of his son. The musician’s offspring goes on a journey of discovery in the documentary using his father’s earlier recordings, photos and film material. Wallace also took it upon himself to interview people close to The Notorious BIG for the work. Among them will be his mother, the singer Faith Evans, jadakissLil Kim and Lil Cease can be seen in conversation.

The mime explains why Wallace decided to work with TIME Studios and create the documentary as follows:

“Over the past few years, I’ve realized that my personal journey involves understanding who Christopher George Latore Wallace was outside of his rap personality. I am on a journey to fully understand the world he lived in and the massive impact he had on American and Black history, and in doing so I can ensure I am fulfilling his hopes and dreams honor as I build and create my own legacy for future generations of Wallaces.”

As part of the documentary is still being filmed, an official release date has not yet been announced. A first teaser trailer is also still a long time coming. Vikram Gandhi (“Barry”) directed the project.

The Notorious BIG was shot dead in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997. The circumstances of the crime and the killers, who shot the rapper four times in the chest, remain unknown to this day. He is considered one of the rappers who have shaped the scene to this day. His debut album READY TO DIE sold over four million copies.
