Large fire in warehouse on Texel, also reported fire in Den Helder

A fire broke out in a business premises in Oosterend on Texel on Wednesday night. It is a warehouse of a contracting company. The fire was so big that several fire trucks from the ‘mainland’ were called in to extinguish the fire on the North Holland island.

Firefighters had the fire under control around 2:30 p.m. The buildings next to the warehouse have escaped the conflagration. There were no people in the shed at the time of the fire. Initially, the security region sounded a great alarm, but not all called-up units actually boarded the boat to Texel.

Images taken on site show that it concerns a warehouse of contractor Bram Boon.

It was not yet clear last night whether hazardous substances were also released during the fire. The security region does report that there are solar panels on the roof of the warehouse. These were not yet connected. Whether the fire caused particles from those panels to end up in the environment is still being investigated.

Also fire in Den Helder

A complicating factor for the fire brigade was a house fire in Den Helder last night. There, in a house in the Nachtegaalstraat, a couch went up in flames. According to a spokesman, no people were present in that house either. Because the Den Helder fire brigade had boarded the boat to Texel, the fire in Den Helder was extinguished by the Breezand/Julianadorp corps. The fire was under control around 1:00 a.m.
