Laetitia Wolff rescued her favorite cow and namesake, Laetitia. After she actually had to go to slaughter, the cow enthusiast arranged for a place on the Limosahoeve farm in Spijkerboor. The cow is very important to Laetitia, which is why she even got a tattoo of the animal on her leg.
The namesakes know each other from the care farm in Noorderhoeve. The cow had to leave because she could no longer be inseminated after a stillborn calf and udder infection. “She therefore did not give as much milk as other cows,” Laetitia explains on NH Radio. “Normally they go to slaughter.” She had other ideas about that and she wanted to save the cow anyway.
The cow was born on February 14, 2020 and the two immediately bonded, which is why the calf was named after her caretaker Laetitia. “In the beginning I thought it was strange,” says Laetitia about the name of the cow. “But you get used to it and I actually call her Titsie.” Cow Laetitia has been standing in Spijkerboor since Saturday and just came running over enthusiastically when her namesake came to visit her.
‘Cow funding’
To bring her namesake closer to home, Laetitia had started a ‘cowfunding’, a collection to keep and maintain the cow. “To keep a cow here as a pension costs 1,500 euros per year.” And such a cow can live up to 30 years. It would cost about 800 euros to take her to the butcher, so Laetitia wants a lot of money collect to keep the cow alive as long as possible.
Laetitia’s foster mom, Peggy, is super proud of her daughter. “I’m more than proud,” she says with tears in her eyes. “She did this all by herself. Very admirable.” Peggy can hardly get her words out of the emotion. “It is very special, the bond she has with cow Laetitia. Fortunately, she is now nearby, so that she can go there herself.”
Cow tattoo
Laetitia feels very calm with cow Laetitia. “We walked over and hugged each other,” she says. “Being with her makes me feel very calm and she calms down too.” Laetitia also takes care of the other cows and calves at the Noorderhoeve. “I wanted to give Laetitia a new home. I think every cow is very special. Cows do a lot for people and I wanted to do something for a cow.”
Laetitia’s love for her cow is so great that she has a tattoo of her on her right leg. “So that I always have her with me,” she says. “I can never forget her like that.” Laetitia has several tattoos, but this is the most beautiful.

The cow lover is relieved that Laetitia is now giving a place. “She looks very nice here, nice in a meadow. Between the other cows and I really like that.” There are retired cows on the Limosahoeve. “Here they can grow old and nothing is expected from a cow.”
Laetitia is very happy that so many people have already contributed. “I want to say a very, very, very big thank you to all the people who have already donated.”
