As soon as Russia moves in, the West will resort to economic sanctions. This is happening now that tensions are rising at the border with Ukraine, but it is nothing new: it has been happening for decades and Russia has learned from it. Russian President Vladimir Putin is much less deterred by this than his predecessors and Russia has become much less dependent on the West, says university lecturer Russian Studies at Leiden University, Morena Skalamera, in conversation with NU.nl.
