Shortly after the Russian offensive against Ukraine began, Masha and her classmates were assigned at school to draw a picture in support of the Russian soldiers. Moskalyov’s daughter decided not to do this and drew Ukrainian war victims. She also wrote the words “No to war” and “Glory to Ukraine” on the drawing. The school informed the police, after which the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) opened an investigation. Soon after, her father Alexei Moskalyov was accused of bad parenting.
Moskalyov was arrested a day later and taken to the police station. He immediately had to pay a fine for discrediting the Russian army. Investigators also searched his home and the man was sentenced to two years in prison at the beginning of this year. Since then, Moskalyov has had no contact with his daughter Masha, who was placed in an orphanage and then reunited with her mother, whom she had not seen for many years. Despite the reunification, according to news website Mediazona, Masja is currently “in a children’s camp”.
On Monday, the Russian appealed against the verdict, but this was rejected and he was also banned from using the internet. In his closing speech, Moskalyov asked the judge to impose the death penalty on him.
