Red Bull’s B-Team AlphaTauri is facing some serious changes after the 2023 Formula 1 season. Consultant Helmut Marko has now confirmed the rumors that the racing team will start under a new name, among other things.
The AlphaTauri Formula 1 team will soon be history. From the 2024 season, the racing team will start under a new name in the premier class. This revealed Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko in an interview with the “Kleine Zeitung”.
“There will be new sponsors and also a new name,” the Austrian confirmed the rumours, which have persisted for some time.
The philosophy of the team will remain the same under the two new managers Laurent Mekies and Peter Bayer. “The orientation is clear: based on Red Bull Racing, as far as the regulations allow. Self-constructions are the wrong way,” said Marko.
Will de Vries lose his Formula 1 cockpit?
Marko has not yet been able to say what the driver pairing of his own B team will look like next season. However, he indicated some changes here as well.
Yuki Tsunoda is driving a “very good season” in which, despite a few unfortunate moments, the performance is basically right. With Nyck de Vries, however, things are different. Marco and Co. are “not satisfied with the Dutchman. We’ll take a look at that,” the consultant hinted at a possible exit for the rookie, who was critically eyed internally by some leading employees even before the start of the season.
Among other things, from Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, who had spoken out against a commitment. And even team boss Franz Tost pleaded for giving Mick Schumacher the cockpit. This, in turn, was not waved through elsewhere.
Marko rules out the possibility that a driver from Austria will get a place at AlphaTauri. The reason: There is no suitable candidate. “No one has the necessary speed. You could bring an Austrian into Formula 1, but we want young drivers who have the potential to become winners. There is no one to be seen in Austria,” the consultant made a harsh judgment the offspring of his home country.
