CHIO – Again no German victory at the Europa Prize

Status: 06/28/2023 10:22 p.m

The Brazilian Yuri Mansur kept a cool head during the first show jumping highlight at the CHIO in Aachen and won the European Grand Prix. He also prevailed against three Germans in the jump-off on Wednesday evening (06/28/2023).

Mansur jumped flawlessly in the individual run and jump-off and set the fastest time in his flawless decider on Miss Blue-Saint. “It means a lot to me,” said Mansur, who was warmly celebrated by his children.

As the best German, Gerrit Nieberg made it to fourth place with Blues d’Aveline, he made a serious mistake in the decision-making round. Next to him, Richard Vogel (Mannheim) and Philipp Weishaupt (Riesenbeck) reached the jump-off with a clear round. Vogel finished fifth behind Nieberg, Weishaupt had two downs but still finished sixth.

The price of Europe is endowed with 200,000 euros, the highlight of the individual competition follows on Sunday: from 2 p.m. the pairs of riders then jump out of the prestigious Grand Prix of Aachen. Before that, the German team will try to defend the title in the Nations Cup (live on WDR television and in the stream) under floodlights on Thursday (June 29, 2023).

Wandres ensures the first German victory

Frederic Wandres had already celebrated his first successes in dressage at noon. The 36-year-old was once again the best German rider in this discipline in Aachen. In the Prix St. Georges, the German runner-up after first place last year with Quizmaster was only beaten by the three-time Olympic champion Charlotte Dujardin (Great Britain). Riding icon Isabell Werth came sixth with Zeffirelli.

Wandres then secured the first German victory of the week. In the four-star Grand Prix he won with his stallion Duke of Britain ahead of world champion Charlotte Fry from Great Britain. On Thursday (June 29, 2023), the 36-year-old will be riding in the team for the Nations Cup together with Werth, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Sönke Rothenberger.

The Prix St. Georges is the dressage test with the lowest level of difficulty at the CHIO, many top riders compete there with their young horses in particular. Even in tests at four-star level, many riders do not present their top horses.

Dilasser perfect and fast

Previously, Dilasser and his horse Abricot had won a test without a jump-off thanks to the fastest clear-cut ride. Before the Europa Prize in the evening, Laura Kraut from the United States and Haley came in second. Maurice Tebbel from Emsbüren, who rode in third place with Quasi Top, ensured the best German placement.

Marc Dilasser on Arioto du Gevres

“As you can see, he’s a bit wild. He’s a little lion and I love him so much. He’s already won a lot of tests at big tournaments. He’s a fighter and so clever,” praised Dilasser, who won his second CHIO Participation celebrated the first victory, his horse. “Riding here is just a dream. I told my groom that I can now tell my little sons that I won in Aachen.”
