Swedish skiing star Frida Karlsson23, was involved in a car accident in Östersund last winter just a few weeks before the World Championships in Planica.
Karlsson told about the crash only after the ski season in April and admitted that he was responsible for the accident in which both cars broke down.
– It was a dangerous intersection. I think we both drove it a little carelessly, Karlsson described his crash For Expressen.
Karlsson got a mild concussion in the crash and hurt his neck. He also said that he was in shock after the incident.
At the preliminary camp of the World Cup in Toblach, Italy, Karlsson was, according to his words, unexpectedly questioned by the police about the car crash.
At first, Karlsson did not answer the police call.
– I noticed on my wristwatch that I had received a message from the police. It read: “you must answer now, this is a police questioning”.
– I was preparing for the World Cup and I struggled with stress levels every day. Then this happened, Karlsson said.
Karlsson said that the police wanted him to give a detailed explanation of the causes of the crash.
– I answered that I was training, stressed and didn’t want to draw attention to it. I took all the responsibility that suited me. I just wanted to get rid of it.
Karlsson was fined by Kolar. Having learned from the incident, Karlsson told Expressen that he drives better now.
The crash did not slow down Karlsson’s progress in the World Championships too much, as the Swedish star achieved two silvers and a bronze in the individual races, as well as a bronze in the relay.
