FC Schalke 04 has nailed it and completed its quartet of goalkeepers for the 2023/24 season. Marius Müller joined the miners from FC Luzern.
The 29-year-old, who caused a scandal in the past with a homophobic statement and is therefore not undisputed, has joined FC Schalke 04 until the summer of 2025 and will wear shirt number 32 in the future.
In an official statement, S04 emphasizes that they have agreed not to disclose “the modalities of the transfer” with the Swiss. According to the “WAZ”, however, around 350,000 euros flow towards Lucerne, where Müller was still under contract until 2025.
“Marius is an experienced player whose quality gives us a lot of security in the goalkeeper team,” sporting director André Hechelmann was quoted as saying. And further: “Justin Heekeren has had a good healing and rehabilitation process after his serious knee injury, he has worked really hard. We want to give him the time to get back to 100 percent. Marius’ signing gives him this time .”
S04 coach Reis “very satisfied”
Head coach Thomas Reis said he was “very satisfied with the line-up in the goalkeeper position. Ralf Fährmann showed what he can do last season. Justin is the challenger who will need a little more time after his injury. And Michi Langer is very important, especially in daily training. With Marius, we now have someone who has good charisma, presence and communication.”
Müller himself stated that he was looking forward to the “special atmosphere in the arena”.
Before moving to Switzerland in 2019, Müller became a professional at his youth club 1. FC Kaiserslautern and was also under contract with RB Leipzig for two seasons. He played 72 games in the 2nd Bundesliga and even 120 appearances in the Swiss football league.
