Gil Ofarim will appear in court later this year, apparently. The singer is accused of false suspicion and defamation. As “Bild” now reports, proceedings against him are to start on November 7 before the Leipzig Regional Court, after a first trial had already burst in October 2022.
An official announcement by the court is still pending. According to the “Frankfurter Rundschau” there is no confirmation of this even when asked. Rather, a spokesman for the Leipzig Regional Court confirmed that there were “currently no summonses and no appointments”.
The legal dispute was triggered by a video that Ofarim put online in October 2021, in which he made serious allegations against an employee of a Leipzig hotel. The musician claimed that he had asked him to take off his Star of David necklace so that he could check in.
After evaluating eyewitness reports and numerous data, including those from surveillance cameras in the hotel, the city’s public prosecutor’s office came to the impression that Ofarim’s description did not happen that way. The affected hotel employee then filed a complaint for defamation.
According to the Leipzig Regional Court, the trial, which was scheduled a year after the incident, did not take place because a comprehensive claim for damages made by the co-plaintiff at short notice was only received later and decisions on the appeals lodged by the defense were still pending.
