French luxury goods group LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton has announced a strategic partnership with Fortnite developer Epic Games to use 3D technology to create new immersive customer experiences.

LVMH, the parent company of Louis Vuitton and Dior, will use Epic Games’ tools to offer experiences such as virtual dressing rooms and fashion shows, 360° product images, augmented reality and the creation of digital twin models of designs, the company announced on Thursday

LVMH adds that the use of technologies such as “Unreal Engine”, a real-time 3D creation tool and 3D modeling technology “Reality Capture”, as well as Epic Games’ “Twinmotion” and “MetaHuman” tools allow the will enable the luxury fashion group to “capture significant growth opportunities”.

“We have always been committed to innovation that has the potential to offer new experiences for our customers. Interactive games, which have evolved into a full-fledged cultural phenomenon, are a perfect example of this,” said Toni Belloni, General Manager of LVMH. “The partnership with Epic Games will further strengthen our know-how in the field of 3D tools and systems, from the development of new collections to advertising campaigns and the websites of our fashion houses. Bill Clifford, vice president of Unreal Engine at Epic Games, added: “Through this partnership, we will work with designers at LVMH to transform the creation of physical and digital products using Epic’s advanced creation tools.

Several of LVMH’s brands have successfully deployed Epic’s software, including Bulgari, which unveiled an immersive, ancient Rome-inspired metaverse experience called “Virtual Rome” at the 2022 Viva Technology conference. The project was implemented using Epic’s Unreal Engine 5.

At this year’s conference, which runs until June 17 in Paris, Louis Vuitton will present the “Digital Show Experience” in the LVMH pavilion, which was also developed using Epic’s “Unreal Engine 5” technology. This six-minute interactive and immersive experience lets visitors relive the Fall/Winter 2023 Men’s Show that took place in January at the Louvre Cour Carrée. Guests can discover a selection of looks and creations from the Louis Vuitton men’s collection during a digital journey through the show’s seven rooms.
