On Tuesday, Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed Dino Toppmöller’s commitment as the new head coach. The former assistant coach of FC Bayern is to lead the Hessians into the new season and has been given a contract until 2026. Now more details of the new collaboration have come to light.
The “Bild” reported on Wednesday about a very sensitive detail in the new employment relationship between Eintracht and Toppmöller. According to the newspaper, the 42-year-old should not have an exit clause in his contract.
Accordingly, it is not possible for any other club to buy Julian Nagelsmann’s former assistant out of the current employment relationship before 2026.
The reason for this explosive contract detail is the bad experience that the Adlerträger had with Toppmöller’s predecessors in terms of exit clauses.
Toppmöller takes over a Bundesliga club for the first time
Both Adi Hütter and Oliver Glasner had corresponding exit clauses in their contracts, which caused great unrest in the club.
In Hütter’s case, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s exit clause was activated, and the Rhinelanders bought the Austrian out of his Eintracht contract for 7.5 million euros. Successor Glasner could also have left Frankfurt for a fixed four million euros, as the “Bild” report goes on to say.
In the case of Dino Toppmöller, these scenarios should now be prevented in the future. The son of former Bundesliga coach Claus Toppmöller is taking over responsibility for a club from the top German football league for the first time.
According to the wishes of the Frankfurt club bosses around sports director Markus Krösche, the new trainer should be kept longer in the club than his quite successful predecessors.
