There have been rumors about Jesper Lindström from Eintracht Frankfurt for months about a possible farewell in the summer. Now the Dane has attracted attention with statements about a possible transfer. His national team colleague Yussuf Poulsen meanwhile banged the drum for a move to RB Leipzig.
Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen has once again fueled speculation that his compatriot Jesper Lindström could switch to the reigning cup winners. “I nudged him a bit. I think it would be really cool if ‘Jobbe’ joined us,” the “Tipsbladet” attacker was quoted as saying ahead of the international match against Northern Ireland.
SGE sports director Markus Krösche confirmed at the beginning of June that RB Leipzig was interested in signing Jesper Lindström. According to reports, however, the Saxons turned down an initial offer of 25 million euros, with Frankfurt envisaging a sum of between 30 and 40 million euros.
Despite the calls made, Poulsen prepared his compatriot for the fact that the internal competition in Leipzig might be a bit higher than in Frankfurt: “He’s a talented player, but we have a lot of talented players in his position, so it will be for him too be a difficult step and he knows it.”
You have to “accept” that several players in the squad are fighting for their place in the starting XI. There are therefore “phases in which it is more difficult”. “When ‘Jobbe’ is fit, he always plays in Frankfurt, but there is no guarantee in Leipzig,” said the Leipzig attacker, who was only allowed to start four times last season.
Jesper Lindstrom talks about a possible departure from Eintracht Frankfurt
Lindstrom himself was quite frank about a possible transfer in the summer. At a press round with the Danish national team, the 23-year-old made it clear that he would consider leaving Frankfurt – but only if the general conditions are right.
“The Champions League is the most important criterion. But if nothing happens, I’ll be happy to stay with Eintracht. Frankfurt is a really cool city and my girlfriend likes to live here. That’s very important,” said the attacker, who works for SGE is still bound until 2026. “When an offer comes, I look at the style of play, the coach and the other players on the team.”
It is clear that for Lindström a possible existence on the bench is a clear exclusion criterion: “If the club has a clear first choice for my position, that’s not for me. It would be ridiculous to leave fantastic Eintracht to go somewhere else on the bench to sit.”
He left it open whether a move to RB Leipzig was the right decision. “Of course I talked to Yussuf Poulsen about Leipzig. But that’s all there is to it,” assured Lindström: “They’re just interested. I’ll let my agent talk to those responsible and then we’ll see what happens.”
Lindstrom knows: “Not only Leipzig is interested. There are other clubs too.”
