National soccer player Antonio Rüdiger would like his long-time defensive colleague Niklas Süle to return to the DFB team as soon as possible.
The Dortmunder was again not nominated by national coach Hansi Flick for the upcoming international matches against Ukraine, Poland and Colombia. “Of course you’re surprised that he’s not there. But that’s a coaching decision, you have to accept that,” said Rüdiger after the DFB team’s training session on the association’s campus in Frankfurt am Main.
“Of course he’s missing because I think he’s a very good player. I get along well with him and I hope he’ll be on board again soon,” said 30-year-old Rüdiger, who played in many international matches with Süle ( 27) formed the German central defense.
Flick demands more from Süle
Flick has again not nominated BVB professional Süle because he accuses him of not exploiting his “huge potential”. The national coach is hoping for the right reaction from Süle in the coming season to the measure and the public criticism if he wants to be at the home European Championship in 2024.
Real Madrid professional Rüdiger also apologized again at the DFB press conference for the incident with a fan at Frankfurt Airport on his journey to the national team. “I overreacted,” he says of his behavior towards an autograph collector. He again sent an apology to them.
“That’s the end of the matter,” said Rüdiger, who expects fans to say “please” and “thank you” when asked about an autograph or a selfie. DFB sports director Rudi Völler had already spoken to Rüdiger about the incident at the airport and on Friday spoke of a mistake by the national player.
