The BBL final 2023 is set. After Ulm, the Baskets Bonn have also reached the series for the German championship in basketball.
The best team in the main round won on Saturday (June 3rd, 2023) with 82:73 (36:35) at the giants Ludwigsburg and thus, after two previous successes at home, the semi-final series with 3:0. The most successful Bonn thrower was TJ Shorts with 20 points.
After the first-round coup against Alba Berlin, Ulm also won their semi-final series against co-favorite Bayern Munich 3-0. The first game in best-of-five mode between Bonn and Ulm will take place on June 9 at the Baskets. Bonn may be in the sixth final, but like Ulm, the Baskets have never won the title.
Long cramped and hectic
After a turbulent start with many missed shots, Bonn got along a little better at the beginning of the second quarter in Ludwigsburg and pulled away slightly for the first time at 24:17. In an intense game, however, the hosts didn’t give up and after a 9-1 run just before half-time they took the lead for the first time. But the baskets showed nerves. Two converted free throws by Finn Delany meant the 36:35 lead at halftime.
In the period that followed, the game remained balanced and was led in part doggedly. The giants lost their top scorers Will Cherry (17 points) and Prentiss Hubb (18) one after the other because of unsportsmanlike fouls. It was only in the final phase that Favorit Bonn was able to better bring in its qualities again. A successful three by Javontae Hawkins five minutes before the end increased the lead to 69:62 to seven points – and the Champions League winner Bonn didn’t give that up until the end.
