Spain’s Mohamed Katir washed the whole fierce group in 5,000 meters.
The highly anticipated men’s 5,000-meter race in the Diamond League of Florence took a less than desirable turn, when an extremely famous group of runners stopped the pace after the hares jumped to the side before the 3,000-meter interval.
A surprise name from Spain swept to victory: Mohamed Katir25.
The 1,500-meter WC bronze medalist and 5,000-meter EC silver medalist from last summer clocked a winning time of 12:52.09. The result is the top quotation in the world this season. Ethiopia took second place Yomif Kejelcha (12:52,12) and Guatemalan third Luis Grijalva with his country’s record of 12:52.97.
Practically all of the current world’s best 5,000-meter men’s runners from Norway participated Jakob Ingebrigtsen without counting. On the line were, among others, the ME man from Vito Joshua CheptegeiOlympic 10,000m champion Selemon Barega and viton’s World Cup silver medalist Jacob Krop.
The winner Katir was born in Morocco in 1998. The journey continued at the age of 5 to Mula in Spain. After a four-year process, the runner received Spanish citizenship in 2019.
