It is actually a matter of course that Kai Wegner mentioned in his first government statement. The new Governing Mayor clearly supported the police and fire brigade.
Rescue workers are attacked too often in the capital, but under Red-Green-Red this was rarely an issue in the Senate.
Wegner promised in the House of Representatives that the trivialization of violence and looking the other way should finally come to an end: “I’m not ready to accept something like that. Whoever protects Berlin, protects Berlin”.
As expected, the Greens and the Left made extensive fun of Wegner’s speech on Thursday. And in the debate, they were primarily concerned about the weal and woe of the climate sticker.
