“It’s just great that you can have such a party in your own province.” These words from singer René Karst on Saturday evening are typical of the way in which the Mega Pirate Festival has been welcomed again by the visitors and the artists. About ten thousand people came to the festivities in Borger.
Also up-and-coming artist Marco Schuitemaker couldn’t believe his luck after his performance in Borger. “The Mega Pirate Festival is something where all major Dutch-speaking artists are present. And I am very proud to be among them.” In addition to the singers from Drenthe, Gerard Joling, Jan Smit, Lee Towers, Henk Wijngaard and many others could also be admired.
Organizer Eddie Mensink had no objections to the 18th edition of the Festijn last weekend. “It was really fantastic with beautiful weather.” Mensink says that the organization is not alone in Borger. “We do it together, with the village, the neighborhood and the municipality.” The organization is welcomed with open arms in Borger every year.
And on Sunday evening there was nothing to see from the evening’s activity. “We are very well attuned to each other, so the completion of the location is now going very quickly.” The organization of the Mega Pirate Festijn is now focusing on the next event, which will be organized on September 1 in Oldebroek.
