“It’s too intimate an event for many”

Radio and TV journalist Maria Veitola, 50, answers his Instagram followers’ questions regarding the Yökylä Maria Veitola program. Veitola lets his followers behind the scenes of his show in his Instagram storieswhich are visible for 24 hours from the moment of publication.

One of the followers asks Veitola what special and surprising customs he has come across in his night-time village adventures.

– For example, that the main character has never brushed his teeth with anyone before or doesn’t want to do it in public. For example Päivi Räsänen and Pekka Haavisto! Veitola reveals in his Instagram story.

– I didn’t realize that brushing teeth is too intimate an event for many. The viewers also get feedback on this. They say brushing your teeth is nauseating, Veitola reflects.

Veitola is also asked what kind of famous people he would not go to even if asked. Veitola has a long list for this.

– Public figures also have serious and unpleasant personality disorders. If I knew about such a thing in advance, I would not expose myself under any circumstances, Veitola begins in her Instagram post.

– Then people who have done bad things and are not ready to admit them and reflect, and maybe don’t deserve program time. Then there are unreliable assholes – I can’t spend time on them, Veitola continues.

One of the most interesting questions from followers is related to hygiene. One person asks Veitola if he has had to sleep in disgusting places during his visits.

Veitola says that she once slept in a room where the lamp did not work. When he had finally found his bed in the dark, something strange caught the attention of his senses.

– I popped in there and wondered why some thousand-year-old fryer from a barbecue kiosk smells here. In the morning I woke up, the day was shining. I stated that I slept in really dirty sheets: that kind of brown human-shaped sweat-grease secretion. That was bad! Veitola recalls.

The documentary reality series already has eight seasons. The latest episode was released on April 6. The series has won no fewer than five Golden Venla awards.
