Goal for Germany, 1:1 by Marcel Noebels

17

19:45

Now the disc is doing really well with the DEB team. Then the game is shifted. Dominik Kahun shoots from the right face-off circle. The deflected puck lands on the other side at Frederik Tiffels. His shot is deflected to the side netting by John-Jason Peterka.

16

19:43

Half right on the blue line Niklas Friman deducts. There’s a lot of traffic in the trajectory, but Dustin Strahlmeier doesn’t have to worry. The disc doesn’t come through.

15

19:41

It’s not just the few interruptions that make for a very quick process, the game itself is also incredibly fast. The Germans can keep up with that over long stretches

14

19:39

Now Justin Schütz conquers the target and gets a free shot in the left face-off circle. Despite a clear view, Jussi Olkinuora doesn’t have that thing for sure, but one of his defenders clears the rest away.

12.

19:37

The Scandinavians don’t want to let that happen today, but the DEB guys still don’t hold back. Fabio Wagner shoots from the left-hand position. Jussi Olkinuora has to bounce the puck forward, but no German can rebound.

11.

19:36

Of course, the goal is good for the already good atmosphere in the Nokia Arena. But also yesterday the Finns led 1:0 and then lost the thread.

Joel Armia

Goal for Finland, 0-1 by Joel Armia

Kaapo Kakko runs into a long-played disc, has to turn away first, but keeps the overview on the right near the curve. The pass comes perfectly for Joel Armia, who shoots directly in the right face-off circle. Dustin Strahlmeier almost gets hold of the disc with his catch hand, but then the thing tumbles over the line.

8th.

19:33

Despite the Finnish vehemence, the German team is not impressed. Harold Kreis’s men regularly make forward moves. But they only got one shot on goal (Finland five).

7.

19:30

Then Wojciech Stachowiak takes the pressure off, takes time off the clock and shortly afterwards the German team has survived. Marcel Noebels returns to the ice.

6.

19:29

Kakko to the post! Outnumbered, the Germans counterattacked via Justin Schütz. At the other end, Kaapo Kakko has a free shot from a half-right position and hits the left post.

5.

19:26

Marcel Nobels

Minor penalty (2 minutes) for Marcel Noebels (Germany)

In the neutral zone, Marcel Noebels tries to stop Joel Armia’s forward drive. The Finn steps on the German’s trowel and falls. But that is a trip and sets two penalty minutes for Noebels.

4.

19:25

Then John-Jason Peterka drives in front of the goal from the right, has a lot of freedom there and wants to put the puck on his backhand. The hard rubber jumps.

3.

19:24

Dustin Strahlmeier gets his hands full right away. The DEB cracks can hardly free themselves, at best play the disc for a long time. The game runs smoothly and without interruptions.

2.

19:23

But then the Finns turn up the heat and have their first really big opportunity. Kaapo Kakko emerges free to the left of the goal. At the last moment, Kai Wissmann gets the racket in between. And the Olympic champion stays tuned, settles in the German zone.

1.

19:22

Even today, the Germans get going boldly, set the first offensive accent. So the guys from Harold Kreis will definitely not hide.

19:11

The Latvian Andris Ansons and the Swiss Miroslav Stolc should ensure order on the ice. Linespersons Jake Davis from the USA and Dāvis Zunde from Latvia go to the two umpires. With the exception of the American, all of the referees have already worked in the DEL.

19:02

As expected, there are changes between the posts on both sides given the upcoming loads. Dustin Strahlmeier is keeping goal for Germany today instead of Mathias Niederberger. Emil Larmi gets the break from the world champion and Jussi Olkinuora takes over. The third Finnish goalie Christian Heljanko is just a spectator – just like today’s extra Antti Suomela, who has to give way to Harri Pesonen.

18:53

Nothing has happened on the German side with regard to the squad. Like yesterday, there are 19 field players and two goalkeepers, who are all in the matchday squad today. Harold Kreis didn’t have to sort one out. Leon Gawanke should be used in the next game on Monday. And then there is the Leon Draisaitl option. The superstar is on the verge of extinction with the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL playoffs, trailing 3-2 in the series against the Vegas Golden Knights. So it could be over by Sunday night. And as early as next night, Philipp Grubauer could be eliminated with the Seattle Kraken against the Dallas Stars. That would of course be two real reinforcements for the German team.

18:44

Jukka Jalonen registered Harri Pesonen today. Along with Marko Anttila, Hannes Björninen, Niklas Friman, Teemu Hartikainen, Mikko Lehtonen, Sakari Manninen, Atte Ohtamaa, Jussi Olkinuora and Ville Pokka, there are now ten 2022 Olympic champions in the roster. The Scandinavians now have 21 field players and three goalkeepers at their disposal. Five players come from the NHL. Top star Mikko Rantanen, who won the Stanley Cup a year ago with Colorado Avalanche, didn’t really know how to convince yesterday. They are joined by Olli Määttä (Detroit Red Wings), Joel Armia (Montreal Canadians), Kasperi Kapanen (St. Louis Blues) and Kaapo Kakko (New York Rangers). Christian Heljanko and Mikael Seppälä come from Finnish champion Tappara Tampere. Then there would be goalie Emil Larmi, a Swedish champion from the Växjö Lakers, and Teemu Hartikainen, a Swiss champion from Servette Geneva. All these guys have key roles at their clubs.

18:35

Both teams suffered defeats in the opening game yesterday. The DEB selection put up a good fight against Sweden, losing out just 0-1. On the other hand, the Finns were surprisingly clearly defeated by Team USA by 1:4 – and deservedly so. Despite the lead, not much went together for the defending champion. But of course the Lejonat cannot be denied the quality because of this one game. The Olympic champion will do everything to show the appropriate reaction in front of his home crowd today.

18:25

Welcome to the Ice Hockey World Championship! On the second day of the title fights, the German national team has to do it again and faces another difficult task against Finland. The first puck is scheduled to hit the ice in Tampere at 19:20 CEST.
