3rd league: Dresden defends promotion place – Zwickau descends

Status: 05/13/2023 7:19 p.m

At 4:04 p.m. the relegation of FSV Zwickau was sealed after seven years in the third division. Dynamo Dresden handed a goal from match winner Niklas Hauptmann to defend the direct promotion place before the final two games in Meppen and at home against Oldenburg. Bitter: Hauptmann saw his 10th yellow card and is missing in Emsland.

Dynamo Dresden has defended the direct promotion place and officially sent the friendly FSV Zwickau into the regional league with a narrow away win in the sold-out GGZ Arena. In front of 10,134 spectators, Niklas Hauptmann scored the later 1-0 (1-0) winner before the break. With two games to go, FSV is seven points behind the saving bank. Dresden remain third with 66 points and thanks to the better goal difference compared to SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

FSV misses the lead after a late kick-off

The game started twelve minutes late because a good dozen Dynamo supporters had climbed unsecured onto the roof of their fan block for a choreo. After that, first of all, those produced according to their weak cup performance at Lok Leipzig in four positions changed Zwickau goal danger. Dynamo left-back Kyu-hyun Park almost conceded an early own goal after Johan Gomez’s input (4′), before Gomez tested SGD keeper Stefan Drljaca (6′).

In addition, Tim Knipping extended an action by Dominic Baumann just wide of his own goal to the left before Baumann headed the following corner centimeters too far to the right (16′). In this intense game, which was characterized by many duels, Dresden set the first exclamation mark shortly afterwards – Hauptmann pointed a header from Jonathan Meier against the post (18th). Again FSV attacker Baumann headed the good cross of strike partner Noel Eichinger not far to the right (24th).

Hauptmann nets in the margin

And dynamo? Suddenly struck ice cold. Christian Conteh paved the way on the right, Davy Frick footed the actually botched back pass exactly to Niklas Hauptmann, who initially failed at Zwickau captain Johannes Brinkies, but then had no problems for his second goal of the season in the follow-up shot from close range (34th). It was an effective hit that gave the black and yellow a boost and put Zwickau under pressure.

Brinkies first had to use all his skills against Meier (40′) and then especially against Stefan Kutschke (43′), and Hauptmann also missed by a hair’s breadth on the left from 15 meters out (43′). Even after the restart, the second-division aspirant remained dominant, but missed the decisive factor on good opportunities from Ahmet Arslan (52nd), Conteh (61st), Joker Dennis Borkowski (68th) and Captain Knipping (73rd), who was otherwise largely unsubscribed second goal.

SGD becomes passive but brings victory over time

So the “swans” kept their residual hope. In addition, the SGD became passive in the final fifteen minutes and dropped back. Jan-Marc Schneider headed Noah Agbaje’s fine pass from the outside of his foot centimeters over the crossbar (78′), six minutes later Gomez missed the opportunity to equalize (84′). But Markus Anfang’s team survived the small power play of the hosts.
