Live ticker Switzerland – Slovenia (Ice Hockey World Championship 2023 Finland/Latvia, Group B)

12:42 p.m

Conclusion 2nd third

The start of the Swiss in the middle third can be described as quite flawed, so the Slovenians came up with more dangerous scenes in front of Leonardo Genoni in the first five minutes than in the whole first third. Then there was Switzerland’s first game with a man down, but it was largely safe. In the 33rd minute, the Swiss showed how a good majority game works – it was Nino Niederreiter who was able to steer the puck over the line after a clever pass from Denis Malgin in front of the goal. For the rest of the period, the Swiss opponents and Puck controlled much better, but there were no more goals and so it is 3:0 at the break.

40

12:41

End of 2nd third. It’s 3-0 after 40 minutes.

And then 40 minutes are already over for the Swiss national team in this opening game. It’s 3-0.

39

12:38 p.m

The final phase runs in the middle section – can Switzerland still manage the probably decisive fourth goal?

38

12:35 p.m

In fact, another attack by the Slovenians, but since the goal only the Swiss have played here again – the underdog has hardly any room for dangerous scenes here.

35

12:29

Despite the somewhat weaker performance in the middle third, the lead is of course more than deserved. Even if the Slovenians now had isolated offensive scenes, the roles are clearly distributed here.

33

12:27

Tooor in the power play for Switzerland, 3:0 by N.Niederreiter.

The captain steers the puck into the goal to make it 3-0 – again Switzerland is successful in the power play. Kukan and Malgin play the puck back and forth, the puck finally comes in front of the goal almost by accident, where Niederreiter steers the puck into the goal to make it 3:0. The assists include Denis Malgin and Gaetan Haas.

32

12:25

2-minute penalty for B.Gregorc (Slovenia).

Blaz Gregorc

Thanks to a save by Blaz Gregorc, Switzerland has the second majority situation in this opening game. Is it fast again?

31

12:19

That’s half the game here – it’s still 2-0 after early goals from Malgin and Moser.

29

12:18

Switzerland survived the penalty confidently – there was only one halfway dangerous scene, the majority of the two minutes played away from the Swiss goal.

28

12:16

Then the Swiss combine outnumbered across the field and a lot of outnumbered time elapses. Then the Slovenians also cause an icing and there is a face-off for Kroselj.

27

12:15 p.m

2-minute penalty for M.Fora (Switzerland).

Michael Fora

Michael Fora has to go into the cool box because of a snag. Let’s see how Switzerland fares in the boxing game.

27

12:14

Penalty against Switzerland announced…

26

12:12

Andres Ambühl manages to avoid being offside by a hair’s breadth, then looks for a gap, but the end of the record Swiss international was not dangerous enough.

25

12:11

Then the Swiss and Thürkauf with a HUGE chance to make it 3-0. Bertschy with the shot, which Kroselj can still thwart, Thürkauf has to use the rebound, but fails because of the Slovenian goalkeeper, who was able to get back into position quickly enough.

24

12:08 p.m

Again the Slovenians and again Genoni has to intervene, now even blocking the puck. The Swiss are quite wrong here at the beginning of the middle third.

22

12:07 p.m

Second goal scene and it’s the second for the Slovenians. Backhand Urbas finishes near the goal, but Genoni is there.

21

12:06

Beginning of 2nd third. Go on.

The middle third is running – the Slovenians with the puck win and also the first dangerous scene in front of Genoni after only 15 seconds. Marti clears the puck and Switzerland should stay focused.

20

11:51

Conclusion 1st third

The start of a World Cup tournament is rarely easy, but the Swiss started today as the clear favourite. They soon did justice to this role, although Patrick Fischer’s team also had to show a lot of patience. The Slovenians were safe and the Swiss ran, but also had to stay defensively alert. The blockade triggered a nice combination in the offensive zone, in which Rok Ticar was only able to prevent the Slovenians from completing the game with a hook. After only 11 seconds in the majority and the interaction of Haas and Kukan, it was finally Denis Malgin who scored the lead with a nice one-timer (13th). With the lead in the back, things continued straight away and only 33 seconds later, Janis Moser came close to the goal and scored with a wonderful finish for the deserved 2-goal lead (14th). The rest of the season reflected the gameplay of the entire third – Switzerland dominated, the Slovenians defended themselves as best they could. Switzerland could have led higher, but definitely deserved the 2-0 lead.

20

11:49

End of 1st third. It’s 2-0 after the first half.

A good game by the Swiss national team. The Canadians also led 2-0 against Latvia yesterday after 20 minutes. Can Switzerland achieve a similarly dominant victory? More after the break.

19

11:46

The last few seconds are running here. Is there a lucky punch just before the end?

18

11:45

Great chance for Gaetan Haas, who finishes from a central position. The Swiss press again towards the end of the starting section.

16

11:44

Only the chance for Switzerland through Thürkauf, who appears alone in front of Kroselj. In return, a counterattack that hits the housing of Leonardo Genoni’s goal.

15

11:42

Now the result finally reflects what is happening in the game. The Swiss had to have a lot of patience, but still got their well-deserved reward.

14

11:39

Tooor for Switzerland, 2:0 by J.Moser.

Janis Moser
Just 33 seconds after Janis Moser took the lead, Switzerland also scored their first five-a-side goal of the tournament. Herzog and Corvi play through nicely, then put the disc on for Janis Moser, who takes another step or two and then quickly shoots into the far, high corner.

13.

11:37

Tooor in the power play for Switzerland, 1:0 by D.Malgin.

Denis Malgin
Only seconds after the face-off – Kukan conducts in cooperation with Gaetan Haas and then brings the puck over to Malgin, who scores the deserved lead with the onetimer in the near upper corner. Switzerland leads after 11 seconds overpayment game!

13.

11:36

2-minute penalty for R.Tičar (Slovenia).

Rok Tičar

Ticar stops a dangerous Swiss attack, but his action was against the rules, which is why he has to go to the penalty box for a hook. Now the opportunity for Switzerland, outnumbered, to untie the knot.

12.

11:33

The Slovenians have been quite rebellious so far and are making life difficult for NHL-experienced Niederreiter and Malgin.

10

11:32

The Slovenians change and are therefore unsorted. After Haas’ nice side shift, Bertschy comes to an end, but warps.

9.

11:30

Ambühl digs out a target and Switzerland keeps the target in the attacking zone for a long time – but a gap does not open up yet.

7.

11:27

After seven minutes there is the first power break – it’s still 0:0.

6.

11:26

First nice attack by the Swiss and Janis Moser comes to a close in the middle. The puck came straight to Gasper Kroselj in the Slovenian goal.

6.

11:25

In a smooth game we are still waiting for the first interruption – the Swiss are running and looking for the gap, the Slovenians are still relatively safe at the back and are waiting for a counterattack.

4.

11:22

The Swiss seem to be aware of their role as favorites here and play with a lot of puck possession. But then it also becomes clear that you have to be careful of counterattacks – but the Slovenians’ first shot goes wide of the target.

2.

11:21

Switzerland’s first attack via Enzo Corvi, who quickly moves into the attacking third – the disc also rolls dangerously in front of the goal, but it doesn’t come to an end yet.

1.

11:20

game start.

It starts with the first third for the Swiss national team at this World Cup. The Slovenians in white, Switzerland in the usual red.

11:07

referee

The game will be led by Lassi Heikkinen (FIN) and Mike Langin (CAN). The linesmen are Daniel Hynek (CZE) and David Nothegger (AUT).

11:02

National team Switzerland

The expectations of the Swiss national team at this tournament are high – just after the New Jersey Devils were eliminated from the NHL playoffs, there are four possible players in Nico Hischier, Jonas Siegenthaler and Akira Schmid, alongside Kevin Fiala from the Los Angeles Kings the best hockey league that could still join the team. Patrick Fischer’s team is captained by another NHL star, Nino Niederreiter.

10:57

National team Slovenia

The opening opponent of the Nati is certainly not one of the big ice hockey nations. As number 20 in the IIHF world rankings, the main opponents in group B are likely to be the Kazakhs, with whom you will probably duel at the bottom of the table. If the team, which mainly competes in this tournament with players from the domestic league as well as from Austria and Germany, wins points today, it would be a great success.

10:53

Situation Group B

Canada, in particular, showed the way by beating Latvia yesterday – the Canadians defeated their opponent 6-0. The Czechs, thanks to the opening goal of Rapperswil’s top scorer Roman Cervenka, were also able to start the tournament with a win in the duel against Slovakia.

10:34

initial position

The start of a World Cup is always like the beginning of the unknown – an opponent like Slovenia, against whom Switzerland is the clear favorite, should come in handy. At the same time, we also know that Switzerland has had difficulties in the past with precisely this starting point. Does this Swiss national team under Patrick Fischer have the necessary maturity to live up to their clear role as favorites here today?
